Laurel Highlands Horse Pulling association was first established in 1994.  Dr. Albert Barnett and Butch Lepley began the association in an attempt to keep horse pulling thriving in western Pennsylvania.  One of the first goals was to continue the pulling competition at the Pennsylvania Maple Festival in Meyersdale.  From 1994 to 2004 the association kept and supported many pulls in western Pennsylvania.

In 2004, the Laurel Highlands Horse Pulling association through the help of many such as Dave Hower, Albert Barnett, and Butch Lepley, built their own dynamometer.  With the help of the dynamometer there has been a resurgence of the association.

Since 2004, the association has increased to over 75 members.  The association continues to grow in numbers and strength. A few of the recent major accomplishments include a point series which involves 6 different states, the establishment of two of the most prestigious pulling competitions in the eastern United States (Porchview and Westmoreland), and a great end of the year awards banquet.

The goal of the association continues to be the promotion of horse pulling throughout the United States.  However, we do a have a strong commitment to promoting horse pulling in western Pennsylvania.  Over the past few years, the association has been able to accomplish some of these goals because of the support of our members and our wonderful sponsors.  For this we are all very grateful and hope you all enjoy the website and an exciting year of horsepulling in 2012!

Sincerely,

The Association
